Description
This painting cost me $40 in snacks. Pictured: paper bag, Slurpee (my kid drank it on the drive home), shave ice, octopus chips, gas station carnations, candied peanuts, shrimp pork hash, taquito, manapua, Redondos hot dog musubi, spam musubi, sushi roll. I started this one from life and finished it from reference after everything got eaten. This one was a finalist in the 2023 Artists of Hawaii show. It lost to a big square of ceramic chainmail pretending to be a blanket. This was a large painting for me – I thought it would have to be BIG to have an impact at the show, but everyone else thought the same thing and went way bigger, so it ended up looking really cute and tiny next to all the other paintings. At least it was hung next to the toilets, so everyone had to stop and look at it at least once.
Oil on canvas panel, 16×16, frame included.
