Description
This one won 1st place in an art show. I was thinking about how culture gets distorted by commercialism, but you still kind of have to do it because at least being a stereotype means you’re still part of the conversation. Lure people in with the fake tikis, plastic tomahawks, cheap sombreros, polyester kimonos – then WHAM, hit them with real cultural education when they get close enough. Just be careful not to become the thing you’re pretending to be. I didn’t write any of that in the art show statement, though. Probably should have.
Oil on birch panel, 8×8, framed. (It comes with the frame because I kind of nailed it into place and I’m too lazy to pull the nails out, even though I literally have a pair of pliers sitting on my desk right now. You can change the frame if you want, they’re just tiny nails.)
